Senior Automation Engineer
Proteus Biomedical, Inc. is seeking a Senior Automation Engineer for our Redwood City, CA facility. This position will support the development of mechanical and automated equipment efforts related to pharmaceutical systems. Focus will be on the improving the manufacturing process of the ingestible event markers as the company scales up its production capabilities.

Responsibilities:
  • Develop advanced manufacturing processes for proprietary sensor systems
  • Design and implement complex automated manufacturing systems for high volume production including the integration of various subsystems including
  • Motors and motion stages/robots
  • Machine vision systems for visual inspection and vision guidance
  • Pneumatic systems for motion control
  • Dispensing systems
  • Small part handling, component feeders, conveyors
  • Process controllers for heaters, timers, and sensors
  • Interface with production engineering to improve product throughputs and yield
  • Design tooling/fixtures to support research and development projects
  • Manage design history documentation including CAD models, drawings, bill of materials, and part specifications
  • Draft equipment specifications and requirements, including the qualification of custom/vendor equipment for production use
  • Work with cross functional teams and outside vendors


  • Required skills:
  • Highly motivated individual with excellent leadership and communication skills
  • 7+ years working on design and development of automated platforms
  • Proficient with SolidWorks CAD software, MS office
  • Experience with high volume manufacturing equipment and test equipment systems
  • Experience with equipment validation and transfer process from R&D to production
  • Basic knowledge of electrical circuits and components
  • Machine shop experience


  • Desired skills:
  • MS in Mechanical Engineering, with focus on mechanical/machine design and/or automated systems
  • Familiarity with pharmaceutical manufacturing equipment, specifically tablet and capsule manufacturing
  • Familiarity with web based manufacturing
  • Understanding of medical industry equipment regulations
  • Knowledge of injection molding, EDM, CNC machining, compression molding, thermoforming, stamping and other component manufacturing methods
  • Experience with software programming languages and machine vision software
  • Experience with adhesives and material bonding processes


  • Education:
  • B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, or related field
